Hello Advocates,
The Student Success Act, just passed by the Oregon Senate this week, contains new funds for school districts to apply to proven practices. The schools may choose the strategies for their districts from a list that includes having arts and music specialists in elementary schools.
This is a positive recognition of the importance of the arts in student learning, but it’s far from making a commitment to every Oregon child for access to creative expression opportunities. We will keep fighting for a comprehensive strategy that will span k-12 grades, and we will keep working to educate legislators so they understand that creative expression is not a luxury but an important part of every child’s educational path and life.
