As the holidays approach, we want to express our collective gratitude to our members and friends of arts and culture in Oregon— THANK YOU!
Over 150 of you joined us in Salem this April for Advocacy Day to help convince legislators to renew Oregon’s cultural trust tax credit for the next six years —check. You joined us in securing state capital funding for five arts and culture projects across the state from the Oregon Nikkei Center to the Lincoln City Cultural Center; from the Cottage Theatre to the High Desert Museum and to the new Patricia Reser Center for the Arts in Beaverton —check. We also advocated to keep special assessments for historic property—check; and preserve cultural trust license plate dollars to market the Oregon Cultural Trust—check.
Raising your voices with us helps make these legislative successes happen. Advocacy can be mystifying and it depends on strong messaging, personal stories, and good relationships.
In our state we are fortunate to have strong support for our sector from the Governor, key legislators, community and tribal coalitions, educators and many individual Oregonians. But we have much more work to do before arts, culture, heritage and the humanities are recognized as foundational to improving Oregon’s the quality of life—that is the work of the Cultural Advocacy Coalition.
Headed into 2020 the Coalition will be seeking a $10 per plate increase in the cultural trust license plate revenues to increase awareness of the Trust, another Oregon innovation unique to the Nation. We hope you will continue to partner with us on this important next step.
